As a consumer and a customer, the author addresses common complaints about Wal-mart and McDonald's. Written in a conversational tone it doesn't touch on their legal problems and financial situations, but rather on how these two corporations affect the common people and our lives.
I Love Walmart and McDonald edition by Lucy Waymire Politics Social Sciences eBooks
When our 1st Wal-Mart came to "town", it was like a feeding frenzy in a shark tank. Businesses sprung up all around it and one intersection became so congested, a 2nd Wal-Mart was proposed on my side of town where we had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Oh did the "neighbors" scream, "Not in MY backyard"! They didn't want traffic problems. What DID happen was business growth for the entire area. People had jobs, the housing market was great, and our "city" made money hand over fist with sales tax. Jump ahead several years, when the city's growth spread toward smaller towns. They flocked to OUR neighborhoods. So, to meet the high needs on the outskirts of our NOW metropolis, Wal-Mart proposed the VERY FIRST 2 additional Wal-Marts (making our city the very first to have FOUR Wal-Marts!). The "WELL TO DO" side of town made so much stink about it,the proposed site's zoning was put to a city wide vote. The people have spoken.....job growth, enough shopping for EVERYONE, and quality of life means more to us than hoyty toyty people who didn't want their "neighbors" seeing them walk into a WAL-MART, GOD FORBID!!! As for Micky D's, people have been eating there for over 50 years..... only with the GMO's, processed foods and super grocery stores did people recently become obese. No, it is not the restaurant chain's fault. He/She who stuffs their mouths with food to swallow their emotions (guilty as charged) IS responsible for their own actions. No amount of lost freedoms by our government is going to change that. THIS IS AMERICA, NEIGH SAYERS. THIS IS NOT A COMMUNIST COUNTRY. Hey wait! Don't they now have chain stores and restaurants also? I bet they don't need laws to keep their freedom of choice, like our country seems to need to do. By the way...... our metro area is beating out the fracking state of North Dakota in economic prosperity. OUR STORES AND RESTAURANTS HAVE FINALLY BROUGHT JOBS, JOBS, AND MORE JOBS to our little fly over state. More are sure to come.Product details

I Love Walmart and McDonald edition by Lucy Waymire Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews
Why does everyone always pick on Wal-Mart? Sometimes I research items and I buy a high-quality, specific brand. But MOST of the time I just need something that works, and WalMart works. (And unlike some local stores I no longer patronize, WalMart doesn't hassle me about returns.) As to supporting local businesses - just as the local business exists to make money, I am here to stretch my family's limited funds!
The author covers the employment practices, product origin, travelling, local business competition and what WalMart & McDonalds do in the local community. This is a good read - especially if you are tired of being on the defensive and wondering what happened to common sense.
Most will probably give this a lower rating because it is just a lady letting it all out. Not deep, no real stats, but just good common sense regarding big business and the people who don't seem to get it. I loved it. She says what I have said for years. I wish I had written it.
I enjoyed this book very much, I can't say much about the style, or whether it was grammatically correct, or whether it fit any critical criteria, all I know is that as I read it, I wanted to continue to the next page and on until it was done. Thank you for saying what I feel about Wal-Mart and MacDonalds.
Although I am more a fan of Burger King, with any fast food, or big box store, the idea that I can go in and get what I want, and know that it is going to be the same where ever I go. I enjoy going to privately owned family businesses when I have the time, and there is a specific reason to go there, but when I am just picking up a few things, or getting a quick meal, Wal-Mart and MacDonalds fit the bill. In my home town, I can go to a local place because I am familiar with it, but if I am in a new place, I like the familiarity.
Wal-Mart and MacDonalds are where they are today because most of America seems to agree with Mrs Waymire, and realize that they can choose to go anywhere they want to. They choose to visit these places for their purchases.
Reads like a fan club letter.
I enjoy this author a lot. She puts into writing the way I think. Hope she puts out more books really soon.
This book made it really clear why people support McDonald's and Walmart, Convenience, cost, good products, Especially for us that are on a tight budget. I enjoy the style of writing and the fair insight. She wasn't writing about 'data' but just her opinion. Some people need to lighten up and just enjoy the insight. Good read. Would love to sit down with her and have coffee. I think she is funny, insightful, interesting. I recommend this book as well as her other one (Why I hate it here, NW Montana)
